A Soldier's Daughter Video
Tyler, a young boy from Bolton, finds out from family friend, Sarah, what life was like for a child growing up during World War II. Sarah explains how scared she felt when war was declared. Her father was conscripted into the army and she remembers the moment he 'joined up' to fight for his country in France.

She helped the government to improve science education for girls and by World War Two was well known for advising on engineering and electricity. Her efforts during World War Two, when she went on important missions for the government, were recognised in 1947 when she became a Dame. She will be remembered for opening up the world of engineering to women.
