Measurement Of Weight Video
Different types of scales are used to measure the different weights of a mouse, a python and a child. The scale can be divided into grams or kilograms. Reading a scale accurately is as important as recording the weight in the selected unit.
Reading Scales Video
A demonstration of how to read scales. Participants in a maths quiz are asked to read different scales and explain how they worked out their answers. Scales are read on a measuring jug, number lines, weighing scales and from a measuring tape. Not all the points on the scales are labelled so the participants must work out how to read them.
Using Grams And Kilograms Video
At the Panto House, Buttons is washing the Ugly Sisters' bloomers. He hangs out the washing to dry and notices that the line takes a maximum weight of 2000g. He must weigh each pair of knickers. He uses scales and finds they each weigh 250g. He counts 10 pairs of bloomers. Now he must work out if he can hang up the bloomers and the 315g tights without the line breaking. Three questions of increasing difficulty help to structure the solution and set related weight problems.
