Evacuees Lesson Plan
This was a series of three lessons completed in the middle of a term's study of the effects of World War II on the lives of children. Previous work had covered key events, dates, information about the main leaders and finding out about the Blitz and air raids, leading to the idea that some children were evacuated from their homes.

D-Day (6 June 1944) was an important day during World War II, as it signified the start of the Allied invasion of German-held France by British, Canadian and US troops. It is often described as “the beginning of the end” to World War II. In the Britannica Article on D-Day you can read about the planning of Operation Overlord, details of the invasion itself and the results. The Work Of Elsie Widdowson Video
Dick and Dom from 'Absolute Genius' describe the life and work of Elsie Widdowson. She was born in 1906, and at this time people did not know much about the content of the food they ate. She published a book called ‘The Composition of Foods’ which contained details of the energy, protein and other nutritional values of many foods.
World War ll Video
Key Stage 2 pupils dressing up in second world war clothes and acting out being evacuees. They then board a virtual train, surrounded by posters and images on the interactive whiteboard which depicts the countryside. The pupils immerse themselves further in British history by playing games from that era.
